To get back to the original question of which tools to take on a trip, here is what I normally take to remote areas:
1/2 inch socket set (7mm to 24mm)
1/2 socket cheater bar
3/4 inch socket set (22mm to 50mm)
Torque wrenches (1/2inch up to 240nm, 3/4 inch up to 500nm)
Thin wall 19mm socket for portal oil ports
Various allen key sockets (diff filler, drain plug and a few others)
Spanner set open/ring (7mm - 32mm)
Flare nut wrenches (10mm - 19mm) (a new addition after having to undo 39 year old brake lines recently)
Various pliers and screw drivers
Hammers (normal and 5 pound)
Proper big wheel spanner
3 x tire levers (with soap and knowledge on how to use - also one of the reasons I take a 5 pound hammer

)
2 x bottle jacks
That's about it. Sounds like a lot, but it easily disappears into the moggie ;-)
I tend to go overkill on tools and recovery kit as I often do solo trips and thus can't rely on someone else's tools.
I think we should similar threads on spare parts and one on recovery kit to take along...
