I tested the new G 580 full electric today. I do not think any other G other than the 4x4 squared) can compete with this one off road.

The difference will come when you try to fill up at Dikbaardskolk, Melkvlei or Gamnakouriep. You just cannot carry volts in jerry cans. I think the instant torque should be impressive, and if proper off-road tyres are fitted, adventure destinations within battery range will promise fun. Don't stretch it too much.

Nice. How do they handle the "diff lock" situation? Is it all automated via software program terrain select? Or is there some form of manual control on how/when to power the individual wheels in offroad situations?

Each wheel has its own engine, independently controlled by software. The "improved diff-lock effect" should result in stupendous capability. And, with all torque instantly available, only the quality of the rubber and the skill of the driver could adversely affect traction. When configured correctly, this vehicle will outdo anything else, as proven by the classic inventor of the electric wheel, the late R.G. (Bob) Le Tourneau, who also invented the bulldozer and much else. They built nuclear-powered rubber tyred snow trains for use in the Arctic. You can find it online and on YouTube. Many earthmoving devices were Diesel-electric with electric motors in the wheels. Sorry, Volvo, you didn't invent that.
