As far as I know you can crank a truck with AGM but not Lead Crystal. The latter is great for solar solutions.

I run a lead crystal battery. A ton of research led to that as a safe and superior technology to AGM or gel. Deltec is in Wynberg, Johannesburg and they sell direct to the public.

I have a 120a/h but there are smaller ones, the 120 is almost 41cm long.

Someone who works in the battery industry told me the lead crystals are basically agm batteries with a gel layer on top. Technical details on the lead crystal batteries are a bit hard to come by, so i haven't been able to verify this claim.

For what its worth i'm also using a lc battery in my hilux and so far am very impressed with its performance.

Riaan - to make you feel a bit more at ease - in my mog i use a normal truck starter battery as my house battery (simply because thats what it came with when i bought the mog and i can't justify discarding a perfectly good battery). I'm a bit more careful not to discharge it too deeply, but so far its worked fine.

Just as with the older lead acid batteries you get AGM high cycle (cranking) and AGM deep cycle batteries.

From what I saw on 4x4Community forum Lead Crystal batteries can fail from heat (not to be mount in enjin bay) and also need a specific charging mode.

Heat is a problem for AGM and gel batteries as well. Any battery's life will be drastically reduced if mounted in the engine bay - which is one reason many manufacturers (e.g. Land Rover, BMW, some Merc sedans, etc) are moving their batteries away from the engine bay..

I think all batteries are heat sensitive, some just more than others. OE battery in engine bay for G300 Professional are Varta AGM high cycle batteries.

Dom vraag:

Watste battery is die AC Delco - LC of LA ??
Riaan

Dankie Chris.

I am finished with my attemp and at this stage fairly happy.

Must still test with fridge and so on but other than that working 100%.

Also installed the solar connection also need to be tested still.

Thanks for all the input.

At this point still uncertain about the correct battery :|

If you can still return the battery you bought i'd suggest you trade it for an agm deep cycle or lc.

If you can't return it, use it till it fails and then upgrade. It will give a bit less usable amp hours than an equivalent agm/lc, but will still provide decent service.

Hello,
I managed to read all the different options you tested on your G. I am not familiar with the topic. I would like a system I can keep in the car and that does not take too much space. It would be to run a fridge and lights. I like the idea to be able to put Solar panel if need be. Is the solution of the battery in the center console and Ctek a safe option?

I did it myself and I am by no way qualified to do it ;),

See the pictures that I posted as I went along above, if you need more detailed explanations you are welcome to contact me.

My mind was made to installing the National Luna box in the G. I took the dimension and I see that it cannot fit between the two seats nor behind it. I am back to square one. Frontrunner tells me they can install it in the middle box. UNfortunately I liked the idea of being able to remove the battery and to be able to use a bigger one. How did you choose between the two options?
